Here is the part 2 of the micro previews and look at the teams of IPL 4. You can read about the other 5 teams here

IPL 2011

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

The semi-finalists in the 1st season. Haven’t been playing to their true potential after that. Infact, their performance was so low-key that there were talks about selling the Franchise. But they now have a new-look team under a new captain. They haven’t retained any of their players from past.

Squad:

Key players: Adam Gilchrist (c), David Hussey, Praveen Kumar, Shaun Marsh

Others: Love Ablish, Amit Yadav, Bhargav Bhatt, Bipul Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Chitnis, Paras Dogra, Ryan Harris, Dinesh Karthik, Ryan McLaren, Vikramjeet Malik, Mandeep Singh, Davi Miller, Abhishek Nayar, Nathan Rimmington, Nitin Saini, Shalabh Srivastava, Sunny Singh, Paul Valthaty

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The most glamorous team of the IPL. They have always been amidst hype and controversies. But never matched all those with the performance on field. It shows in the way they have not qualified for the semi-finals in any of the previous 3 seasons

Squad:

Key players: Gautam Gambhir (c), Jacques Kallis, Eoin Morgan, Ryan ten Doeschate, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Brad Haddin, Brett Lee

Others: Manoj Tiwary, James Pattinson, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Jaidev Unadkat, Sarabjit Ladda, Rajat Bhatia, Manvinder Bisla, Shreevats Goswami, Iqbal Abdulla, Pradeep Sangwan, Shami Ahmed, Laxmi Shukla

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The team which had a fairy tale tournament in the 1st season. No one gave them a chance. They were the underdogs. But then managed to win the tournament under an inspired leadership of Shane Warne. But much like KXIP, they had put up very ordinary performance in the next 2 season. They have retained two of their key players – Shane Watson and the captain himself. And also got many new men on board. It will be interesting to see how they perform in the 3rd season.

Squad:

Key players: Shane Warne (c), Rahul Dravid, Ross Taylor, Shane Watson, Paul Collingwood, Shaun Tait

Others: Johan Botha, Amit Singh, Swapnil Asnodkar, Stuart Binny, Deepak Chahar, Ankeet Chavan, Aakash Chopra, Aditya Dole, Nayan Doshi, Samad Fallah, Faiz Fazal, Ashok Menaria, Sumit Narwal, Pankaj Singh, Amit Paunikar, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Raut, Dinesh Salunkhe, Pinal Shah, Siddharth Trivedi, Dishant Harendra Yagnik

Sahara Pune Warriors (SPW)

The first newbie this season. SPW are the most expensive ever team in IPL so far. Yuvraj Singh is the captain. There have been few moans about this decision. But after his terrific performance at the recently concluded World Cup there would be less of complaints.

Squad:

Key players: Yuvraj Singh (c), Graeme Smith, Jesse Ryder, Ashish Nehra, Wayne Parnell, Manish Pandey

Others: Robin Uthappa, Callum Ferguson, Murali Kartik, Mitchell Marsh, Nathan McCullum, Tim Paine, Jerome Taylor, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Eklavya Dwivedi, Ganesh Gaikwad, Harpreet Singh, Dheeraj Jadhav, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Kamran Khan, Harshad Khadiwale, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mithun Manhas, Mohnish Mishra, Shrikant Mundhe, Sachin Rana, Rahul Sharma, Alfonso Thomas, Shrikant Wagh

Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK)

The other new team this season. I don’t have a good feeling about the squad with players like Sreesanth, Ramesh Powar, Ravindra Jadeja, VVS Laxman and the likes. But you never know, because IPL has always proved that strength of the team on paper hardly matters! A technically sound batsman like Jayawardene being the captain should help a lot

Squad:

Key players: Mahela Jayawardene (c), Brad Hodge, Owais Shah, Brendon McCullum (wk), Thisara Perera, RP Singh, Muttiah Muralitharan

Others: VVS Laxman, Michael Klinger, Parthiv Patel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, John Hastings, Steven Smith, S Sreesanth, Ramesh Powar, R Vinay Kumar, Steve O’Keefe, Deepak Chougule, B Akhil, Raiphi Gomez, Kedar Jadhav, Chandan Madan, Tanmay Srivastava, Yashpal Singh, Sushant Marathe, Gnaneshwara Rao
